SOPA and PIPA were the internet censorship bills, in the US House and Senate respectively, that sparked huge protests around the globe. All the technology/internet companies aligned against the bills, with a few small exceptions. The most notable? Comcast - the ISP that had alienated enough customers already, or so it seemed! Cries that the two bills would "break the internet" didn't seem to bother Comcast in the slightest. Of course, why would they? Comcast already has no gripes with breaking the internet for its customers anyway.
Something of a side issue to SOPA, and its trade agreement
counterpart ACTA,
is the current Richard O'Dwyer extradition case. Richard O'Dwyer
is an English college student who ran the TVShack.com
website. I could try to explain the case, but nobody does it
better than YouTube partner Mike
Mozart:
I don't think we want to be celebrating the birthday of a
company that stands over this kind of disgraceful behaviour.
